Dress. Cotton, embroidered w/ silk, chain stitch. Linen lining. #T391-1970. Done in Gujarat, western India, by professional craftsmen of the Mochi community, using a tambour hook & a needle. Fabric 1740-1760, Dress 1780.

Shell Winterthur Museum, Delaware, USA. Screen printed cotton dated 1760-80 used as lining for a Banyan – a mans dressing gown in oriental style. The original print is brown on light ground. These small patterned monochrome prints was used as linings for clothing as well as furnishing textiles.
