If untreated, signs and symptoms may progress to unconsciousness, seizures, coma, and death. Polydipsia, polyuria, and polyphagia are symptoms associated with hyperglycemia. Acidosis results from uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, with hyperpnea (Kussmaul respirations)
