19K views · 17K reactions | One of Englands greatest castles. Wedged into a crook in the river Coquet in Northumberland sits the substantial medieval ruins of Warkworth Castle. Dating to the 1150’s this monumental fortress became the home of the mighty Percy family in 1328, with Henry Percy becoming the Earl of Northumberland not long after. He can be attributed to the massive and unique castle keep, something which was more likely a representation of his wealth than anything else. The Percy’s seemed to favour Warkworth over their other castle at Alnwick, and even made it the family home.
