1970: Agatha Christie on her 80th birthday. Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, DBE (née Miller; 1890-1976) was an English crime novelist, short story writer, and playwright. She also wrote six romances under the name Mary Westmacott, but is best known for the 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections she wrote under her own name, most of which revolve around the investigations of Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She also wrote the world's longest-running play, The Mousetrap.
Alan Mathison Turing (1912–1954) British mathematician, logician & cryptanalyst. He was highly influential in the development of computer science, giving a formalisation of the concepts of "algorithm" & "computation". Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science & artificial intelligence.
