This is the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus)! Endemic to Borneo's tropical and subtropical rainforests. The largest tree-dwelling mammal. The gardeners of the forest, they disperse seeds as they travel. Threatened by habitat loss, their forests are burned to build palm oil plantations and other industry. Illegally hunted for bushmeat, they are also killed to mitigate territorial conflicts with human interests; populations are rapidly decreasing. Critically Endangered.
