Laurenne Hopkins - Farmer Florist on Instagram: "We are busy on the farm this month starting lots of flowers for 2025 blooms! Biennials only produce leaves in their first year, then in their second year, they flower, set seed, and then die.

Biennials include lots of beloved cottage garden favourites such as foxgloves, sweet rocket, and sweet williams and are particularly useful because they bloom during the period between the last of the tulips and spring bulbs and the first of the summer annuals, filling an important gap in the cut flower garden!

Are you sowing biennials this year? If you'd like more in depth advice on growing cut flowers I've made a full guide of what we sow every month on our flower farm - as a special offer I've reduced this to £15 for this week only - comment the Sweet Rocket, Farmer Florist, Growing Cut Flowers, Sweet William, Cut Flower Garden, Spring Bulbs, On The Farm, Flower Farm, Cut Flowers

Sylvie { farmer ⋆ florist } on Instagram: "5 things I no longer do as a farmer-florist 👇🏼 Grow a little bit of everything — Its tempting to want to grow every colour of every variety out there but something I learnt after my first season is that my work was so inconsistent because I always had a little bit of everything blooming at once. Now I stick to a few of each variety and grow more of them. Start any seeds 4-6 weeks before last frost— I learnt this one the hard way but with a short season, starting seeds 4-6 weeks before my last frost date leaves no space for failure. If I have terrible germination rates with a certain flower, it never gives me enough time to try again. I now start them 6-8 weeks before my last frost. Wait to plant warm season crops after the last frost— Hear me Farmer Florist, Starting Seeds, Flower Business, Seed Starting, The Hard Way, 5 Things, 8 Weeks, Try Again, My Last
