Margaret Tudor

On November 28, 1489, Margaret Tudor was born. She was Henry VII's second child and first daughter, making her the perfect politically tool. It was because of Margaret's marriage to James IV of Scotland that England and Scotland united in 1603. However, it was during the reign of her great-great-great-great-granddaughter, Anne, that the two countries officially became part of Great Britain.

Mary I by the English School after Hans Eworth, c. 1550s-Though the later Tudor Era gowns, those we see in portraits from the Elizabethan Period, capture much of our attention, it is the form of this earlier style I find so pleasing.The classic mid-16th century English look is created in large part by the farthingale: an inverted small triangle of the bodice over a larger one of the skirt.
