Jordan | Occupational Therapist | Baby & Toddler Play on Instagram: "A great activity to work on pre writing skills and fine motor skills! This is also a way to work on what we call “graded force” in the therapy world. Your child will have to determine how much force to place on the utensil to write in the play doh. If they push too hard, the play doh will rip. If they don’t push hard enough and use enough force, the letters will not show up. A few different ways to do this depending on age/skill level. - show a flash card of a letter and let your child write it in the play dough using a pencil/utensil and then trace it with beads (for the older toddlers who can write letters) - You write a letter in the play doh and have your child “trace” the letter by putting beads along the lines Handwriting Kindergarten, Pre Writing Skills, Play Doh Activities, Prewriting Skills, Preschool Fine Motor Activities, 2nd Grade Writing, Handwriting Activities, Playdough Activities, Pre Writing Activities

As promised, this is my part 2 video of how to help your little writers achieve a proper pencil grasp! If they are of the age of being developmentally ready to grasp their pencil with a tripod grasp but still struggle with it, these are some easy tips for you!

Achieving a proper pencil grasp is a lot harder and works a lot more muscles than you might think. The muscles of the shoulders actually play the most vital role in pencil grasp + legible handwriting. Because of this, my part 3 video will focus on my favorite engaging and fun activities you can do at home to strengthen the muscles needed for proper pencil grasp, legible handwriting, writing endurance, and so much more!
