First French or Spanish first rate Ship of the Line.
The Spanish first-rate 'ship of the line' the Santísima Trinidad. She was armed with 112 cannons, and would have been a 'fearsome sight' for other first-rate warships, let alone fifth and sixth rates! She’s sailing towards us here: with her course sails, topsails, topgallant sails and royal sails ‘all out’. She also has one to two jib sails, deployed on her bowsprit; though there’s some unusual looking sails to the left there (presumably staysails in an ‘odd place’). A fine 18th century warship!
