I love this idea of using natural materials for construction. It doesn't quite replace unit blocks (which really reinforce mathematical concepts) but it adds a naturalist kind of whimsy. It would be interesting to see which kids are particularly drawn to the natural blocks vs. the unit blocks...

This is a reggio inspired block centre and I love all the endless possibilities this centre offers for children to explore. Not only are there blocks, but so many different kinds! It would be really cool to see how children choose to build and construct while working with different materials that wont fit perfectly together like a game of "Jenga."
