(Mbuna Bay, Lake Malawi)- The bottom line is yes. You can put anything you like in your cichlid tank since ultimately it is your tank. However, if you are attempting to create or mimic the natural environment of the lakes where these fish are from you will want to avoid using certain items such as; plants, sea shells, ocean rock, coral or clay flower pots as none of these are found in the lakes in Africa where cichlids live and thrive. What is found are; round boulder type rocks of varying sizes
