1890 Midtown Manhattan, from 34th Street to 59th Street and from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue.
One can see, as early as 1660 the Dutch had artificial canals extending into the city. The long one is now Broad Street, named Broad Street after the broad canal that it replaced. The shorter one is on Beaver St. The first bridge over the canal is now Bridge St. (Old Images of New York Group)
