Metalsmith Society on Instagram: "It’s easy to forget that earring posts need work hardening too—but don’t skip it or you risk a wobbly post that bends way too easily 💫 Here are two ways to work harden them: 1️⃣ Use flat pliers to gently twist the post—first one way, then the other. This adds tension and gives a little compression from the steel. 2️⃣ Or, hang the earring off the edge of your steel block and roll a flat hammer over the post to harden and straighten it at the same time. Both methods are simple, quick, and make a big difference! Metal Smith Tools on Instagram: "Beware! Stainless steel tweezers or a stray piece of steel shot might seem harmless, but one tiny touch and—yikes!—your jewelry gets an uninvited copper makeover. Don’t panic though, because we’ve got a magical fix for this metallic mishap! Here’s the trick: mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar (half and half, like besties). Pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds—it’s not potion-making unless it’s warm, right? Then, drop your copper-plated piece into the mix and watch the magic happen. Once it’s nice and clean, give it a rinse. If it needs a little extra TLC, reheat the mix and repeat. Voilà! Crisis averted, and your jewelry is back to its fabulous self! Smithing Society on Instagram: "Huge shoutout to the incredibly talented @dont.quit.your.daydreams for sharing this masterful process of hollow forming a signet ring from 18ga dead soft sterling silver! 👏✨ From using 1/0 Nano saw blades to cut the blank, to forming with daps, soldering with precision using hard and medium solder, and finishing with Swiss files, sanding, Tripoli, and polish—every step reflects true craftsmanship and attention to detail. The use of the “Hold it” moldable third hand from @pepetools and a platinum soldering block shows the level of thought and care that goes into creating something this refined. The result? A beautifully clean signet ring, left intentionally blank to serve as a master model for future designs. Want to learn to make your own? DM for details
