Leodegar was born into a prominent Burgundian family, the son of Bodilon, Count of Poitiers and Paris, and St. Sigrada of Alsace, who later entered religious life as a nun at the convent of Sainte-Marie in Soissons. His brother, Warinus, also had a significant role in his life.
Leodegar spent his early years in Paris, where he was raised at the court of King Clotaire Il of the Franks and received his education at the palace school
