Akan wood mask, 'Supremacy'

"This mask brings honor, integrity and wisdom to the possessor," Evelyn Kafui Ahianyo explains. She designs the handsome features with elegant symmetry. "Such masks are always placed on the table or at the foot of a chief whenever important decisions or judgments are to be made," she says. These were used by chiefs in Southern Ghana. The name, i Dufia, /i is an Akan word meaning "Supremacy."
