Culzean Castle and gardens, run by the National Trust for Scotland and open to the public since being given by the 5th Marquess of Ailsa and the Kennedy family in 1945. Much of it fashioned by Robert Adam for the then Earl of Cassillis in the 1780s, it is now a popular tourist attraction being not far south of Ayr on the Clyde coast between Maybole and the Maidens.
