Antique OOAK Art Deco Silver Pendant Necklace Ornate Jakob Bengel Fob Pastel Decor

An antique trefoil (clover-shaped) fob and 'connector' from an original Deco-Era Jakob Bengel watch chain are suspended on an ornate silver book chain. A fabulous belt accessory or necklace, wear it as a stand-alone piece or layered with other chains. The fob and connector are Chromium silver decorated with insets of pink and blue Galalith and an engravedf foliate (ivy) design. A small spot of pink Galilith is missing from the bottom of the middle lobe on one side of the fob, a manufacturing flaw that does not affect the integrity or appeal of the piece. The silver metal chain is a beautifully detailed, contemporary reproduction of a Victorian-era chain. The swivel dog clip is Chromium or chrome-plated and from the 1920's, as are the jump rings. Jakob Bengel was in the forefront of early 20th C. 'Machine Age,' Bauhaus and Art-Deco design. From 1924 to 1938, his factory in Idar-Oberstein, Germany ('Jakob Bengel Chain and Bijouteries') produced chrome-plated brass and Chromium silver chains with Machine Age design elements of carved, pastel-colored Galalith. The manufacturing of Galilith, a casein-based plastic, came to a halt at the start of WWII: milk (a source of casein) was rationed in Germany and not available for non-nutritive purposes. The trefoil is an arcane symbol of the number '3' and a prominent design element in ancient Norse, Celtic and Indian art and imagery. In heraldry, the trefoil symbolizes Irish heritage, as well as the concept of 'past-present-and-future.'
